It was Wayne Iacono who came out on top in the recent Stockmans Civil & Plant supported Queensland Lightning Sprint Title at Toowoomba’s Hi-Tec Oils Speedway, with lady luck smiling on the Toowoomba local during the closing stages of the feature race.
While Iacono occupied pole position for the Queensland Title-deciding feature race, youngster Jordan Binskin (NSW) made the best of the start, immediately seizing the lead at the drop of the green flag. Controlling the pace out in front for the majority of the 25-lap distance, disaster struck for Binskin on lap 22, when a mechanical issue forced him to retire to the infield, gifting the lead to Iacono, with the former Australia # 2 going on to claim the Queensland Title victory.
Next to greet the chequered flag was current Australian and NSW Champion Kurt Wilson (NSW), who launched an impressive effort to claim the runner-up spot, after starting 10th.
Outgoing Queensland Champion Keith Blatch clinched the final podium place, after running third for the majority of the feature race, before slipping back to fourth in the closing stages, only to regain his position with just two laps to go.
Rounding out the top-five finishers were Peter Campbell and Jason George, while Stephen Allen (NSW) and Michael Gollagher completed the finishers. Unfortunately for George, he rode out a spectacular crash as he crossed the finish line.

Also suffering premature retirements and joining Binskin on the infield were David Van Vegchel, Ian Galvin, Jason Rae, Alan Brosnan and Shane Matthews.
Binskin was the best in the earlier heat races, coming away with a win and a second-place finish, while Blatch and Iacono each scored a win and a third-place finish.
